The Science + technology

The Science of GoNano Roof Rejuvenation.

GoNano’s nanosilica technology is designed to modify the molecular structure of qualifying asphalt shingles—so homeowners can investigate preservation before assuming replacement is the only path.

Nanosilica goes into the shingle.

GoNano’s technology is designed to work within the shingle rather than remain as a traditional surface coating. Treatment suitability depends on the roof’s current condition.

The technology

GoNano modifies the shingle structure, not just the surface.

GoNano’s nanosilica technology is designed to send particles into asphalt pores and modify the shingle structure throughout the material. The intended benefits include improved flexibility, hydrophobicity, anti-aging performance, and durability.

The treatment is designed to differ from simply replacing lost oil or covering the surface with silicone or acrylic. Michigan Nano Roofing still evaluates the roof first: a treatment is not a substitute for failed decking, widespread leaks, or shingles that have lost structural integrity.

Penetrates

Designed to reach asphalt pores.

Modifies

Changes the structure rather than leaving a skin.

Preserves

Supports a longer service life when the roof qualifies.

Independent study

The study story, in plain language.

CNETE

An independent scientific study evaluated GoNano’s technology in Canada with the National Center in Environmental Technology and Electrochemistry (CNETE), covering asphalt shingles and SBS membranes.

68–100%

In the cited residential testing, molecular aging processes were slowed by a minimum of 68% and up to 100%, depending on the age and condition of the shingles.

10–15 years

A single GoNano treatment may provide 10 to 15 years of additional lifespan, depending on roof age and condition. This is a qualified estimate, not a promise for every roof.

Weather resilience

GoNano’s technology is designed to support flexibility, moisture resistance, and resistance to heat, oxidation, UV, wind, and hail. Results depend on the existing assembly and the current written specifications.

Impact resistance

A path from Class 1 toward Class 3/4 standards.

GoNano’s UL 2218 impact-resistance testing references compare ordinary Class 1 shingles with higher impact-resistance results, including Class 4 examples. The product’s actual classification, test method, and eligibility should be confirmed for the specific roof and current documentation.

That distinction matters in Michigan, where hail, wind, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles can accelerate aging. A roof assessment is the practical bridge between published testing and a property-specific recommendation.

A careful next step

Science can explain the option. An assessment tells you if it fits.

Michigan Nano Roofing reviews the roof that is actually on your home, then explains whether rejuvenation or replacement is the more sensible path.
